It's a smooth ride for bicyclists who are heading from the Hermosa Beach Strand to Marina Way in Redondo Beach - and now it's one of the country's best.

People For Bikes, a national organization advocating for safe bike riding, has named the new Redondo Beach pathway one of the top ten best new bike lanes in the country for 2015.

The organization, calling the lanes "gorgeous," lauded the new pathway for its "low-stress access" to a popular beach area, and for making bike riding "a viable alternative" to car traffic.

The Redondo Beach bike lanes were the only bike lanes in California to make the top ten list.

It's not your average daily jog. The series of running races held each November in Palos Verdes includes a gorgeous morning sunrise and views of ocean, hills and cliffs throughout each run.

The signature event is the Palos Verdes Half Marathon, but the 10K and 5K races run at the same time are popular and challenging in their own rights, also. Each is part of the Lexus LaceUp running series, a set of four Southern California races.

Runners come mainly from Southern California, getting themselves up to The Hill before dawn and making their way to the starting area at one edge of the gorgeous Terranea Resort. Excitement builds as the sun's glow brightens before the 7:00am start, and then, runners are off.

lacrossegear-crop the beach? Not only is it a possibility, it's becoming a more frequent sight, thanks to the efforts of the South Bay Lacrosse Club (SBLC) to grow the sport throughout the South Bay.

Lacrosse, a sport that dates back to Native American Iroquois tribes, has been popular for years on the East Coast but has recently started garnering more attention on the West Coast.

beachlac"It's growing very fast," said SBLC Program Director Ian Mills, who noted that from 2009-2014 nationwide, lacrosse participation in high schools grew 27.8% and 31.2% for boys and girls programs respectively, with no other sport cracking a 10% growth rate.
